Magister Randy Evans has been a member of Hagia Sophia’s governing Board for eight years, serving as Board Chairman for the last six years. This year he has begun teaching Christian Studies to 5th and 6th Grade students in the Academy. Randy has nearly 50 years of experience teaching and counseling in many different contexts. He was a youth minister for four years during his college days in Lincoln Illinois where He received a BA in Christian studies, majoring in Greek New Testament. In 1974 he became a campus minister at Eastern Illinois University for 2½ years. In 1977 Randy and his wife Patty moved to Indianapolis where he served as a priest in the Evangelical Orthodox Church for 23 years until 2000. In 2003 Magister Evans began a 16-year career as a licensed Addiction Counselor, and currently volunteers in the Hamilton County Jail twice a week teaching life skills and substance use recovery. He and Patty have three grown daughters and seven grandchildren, including two who are still students in the Academy.
